How the Fandom Made My Day One Hundred Times Better

I got my Son of Coul shirt in the mail today and I wore it at work.
The first reaction I received was from a four year old boy who looked at it with very sad eyes and said, “Agent Phil died.” And I said “Yes he did. Do you like the avengers?” He said yes. I asked him who his favorite was and he quietly but proudly answered, “Agent Phil Coulson,” and continued louder as his dad was walking away with him, “But second is Captain America!”

The second, less heartwarming reaction was a grown man in his late forties who saw it, smiled and slowly whispered “Coulson Lives.” He winked and walked away.

That’s why I love movies. When you know that someone shares an interest with you, particularly in film, you feel an instant connection to that person. You know that if you make an obscure reference nine times out of ten they’ll get it. Movies bring strangers together.

It’s enough to brighten up my day when all I could think about before was the results of my heart monitor.

So thanks, Agent Coulson, and all of the Avengers fandom. Everything is a little easier to deal with now.
